Former Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas has come under criticism from the Barcelona fans on several occasions this season. He has been unable to replicate his Arsenal form since his £ 35 million move from the Premier league outfit almost 2 years ago. Fabregas has also been playing much higher up the pitch than he has ever been playing in his career.
Many believe that it has contributed to his poor form at the Camp Nou, as he has found himself consistently on the substitutes bench. He has been overlooked when it comes to the midfield positions, as manager Tito Vilanova has preferred the partnership of Xavi, Sergio Busquets, and Andres Iniesta.
Despite his poor form, Vilanova has come to the support of Fabregas by saying that he has been extremely good for the club. Fabregas was heavily criticised during the 3-0 defeat against Bayern Munich at the Camp Nou. Barcelona suffered an exit from the Champions cup league semi-final after suffering the 7-0 defeat on aggregate. Vilanova has said that Fabregas is a player of great quality and he has recalled how the Spaniard finished as the second-highest scorer for the club last season.
The 25-year-old has managed to score 13 goals in all competitions for Barcelona, while he is viewed as the long-term successor to Xavi.
“Cesc is a player of great quality. It was very difficult for him to come here, but last season he was our second top scorer and this season he’s going the same way again. His performances are very good and I don’t think the majority of people in the stadium the other day focused their displeasure on him. He’s a big asset to the team,” said Vilanova. Barcelona have been knocked out of the cup competitions this season and they can only win the league title.

The former Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas has said that he is extremely confident that Barcelona will be able to get past Malaga in the second leg of the quarter-final clash between the two clubs. Barcelona will be coming up against Malaga in the quarter-final stage of the Copa del Rey looking to overcome a team that managed a 2-2 draw in the first leg. Barcelona looked home and dry in the first leg itself when they managed to take a two-goal advantage before the second half. However, a fantastic second half from Malaga meant that the game finished 2-2.
As a result, Malaga come into the match tonight with real confidence especially since they are playing at home. The Copa del Rey remains as one of the important competitions in Spain, and Barcelona have expressed their desire to win this tournament. The midfielder Xavi has been speaking recently about the possibility of matching the achievements of 2008/09 season when they managed to win six trophies during the year. Barcelona come into the encounter on the back of a poor run of form, which has seen them not win the match in the last two. They have also suffered their first league defeat of the season at the hands of Real Sociedad.
“It is our most important match so far this season – it is our first final. We will approach it like any other difficult game. We cannot lose our identity. When you play so many games against the same opponent, you obviously know them well. Little things could make the difference. We already played a great game in Malaga, and in the first leg we could have scored more goals. We have to be confident that we can get a result even though they will not make it easy for us,” said Fabregas.

The Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas has been ruled out for the next few weeks after suffering a thigh injury in the recent match against Real Betis. After struggling to assert himself under the new management of Tito Vilanova early in the campaign, Cesc Fabregas has become one of the important players for the team in the last few weeks. This will be a major injury blow to Vilanova, who will now be looking to replace him with the fit again David Villa. Fabregas was on the pitch for just 9 min and suffered an injury, which meant that he had to be replaced by the Chilean winger Alexis Sanchez.
The club have now confirmed on their website that the midfielder is now facing a lengthy spell on the injury table, which means that you will not be available for return before the start of the New Year. However, it was not all bad news for Barcelona from this match because they managed a 2-1 victory over the team that achieved a win over Real Madrid only a few weeks ago. Lionel Messi scored both goals in this victory, which helped him get past the record set by the German striker Gerd Mueller for the most number of goals in a calendar year. Messi now has 86 goals in 2012.
“FC Barcelona’s medical services have confirmed that Cesc Fabregas has torn the bicep femoris in his left thigh. He’ll be sidelined for three to four weeks. Therefore, he’ll miss the team’s last three games in 2012 – the two Liga matches against Atletico Madrid and Valladolid and the away leg of the Copa del Rey against Cordoba. He could also miss the first games of 2013, against Espanyol and the return leg of the cup at the Camp Nou,” said a Barcelona statement.
