Martino Believes Fabregas To Be Key

Barcelona manager Gerardo Martino has stated that he believes that the club can win the title this season since the final match of the season will be in front of their own supporters. The final match of the season for the club will see them take on title rivals Atletico Madrid. Diego Simeone’s team can win the title with even one point from the match. Barcelona, on the other hand, are in need of a win order to retain the title. Barcelona could have lost the title last weekend itself, but they have 0-0 draw with Elche was followed by Atletico’s failure to win against Malaga in front of their home supporters.

Barcelona fans has certainly happy to see their team this position in what has been a very disappointing campaign. They were knocked out of the Champions League at the quarter-final stage by Atletico, who they have failed to beat this season. Ahead of the match, midfielder Andres Iniesta stated that the home support will be very crucial in the match. In the past, home support has worked against them after Barcelona supporters booed thereon player – Cesc Fabregas – for poor performance. Recently, Barcelona defender Gerard Pique stated that it does not help players when their own fans start booing them.

“We are going to need the support of the fans so that the players on the field can feel it and feed off it. It has not been a season in which we have shone a lot, but with the help of the fans we can win the league. It was one of those matches in which you have a strange feeling, especially after Andres’ shot. We began to make mistakes and sometimes lacked the patience needed due to desperation,” said Martino. Barcelona are two points behind Atletico in the table.
