CHELSEA TO SIGN MARTENS FOR FREE IN SUMMER

Chelsea are reportedly interested in Napoli forward Dries Mertens. The Blues failed in their bid to sign the Belgium international during the winter transfer window. They are expected to make another move for the player during the summer. Chelsea will face challenges from other parties, who have also registered interest in the Player.

The player will be available for free in the summer. Reports have also suggested that Napoli are trying to convince the player to sign a new deal. But sources close to the player have revealed that he will be moving to another club in the summer.

Mertens is reportedly keen on breaking the Naples side all-time scoring record. The feat he achieved when he scored against Barcelona in their UEFA Champions league round of 16 tie in Naples.

Lampard is keen on the forward who is highly regarded within the Italian League.

Chelsea have struggled in front of goal in recent weeks. Top striker Tammy Abraham is recovering from injury, while Bathuayi and Olivier Giroud have failedĀ  to convince whenever given the opportunity. Chelsea drew with Bournemouth last weekend, a match that left back Marcos Alonso scored the Blues two goals, and he narrowly missed out on an Hatrick. Lampard revealed his frustration after the game, stating he doesn’t want his left back to be his top scorer.

Tammy Abraham is the only goal threat in the team and the goals are no longer flowing for the England international.

There had been reports of a potential move for Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho but that has been shelved until the summer. Mertens at 32 is no spring chicken but still possesses the ability to decide matches with his shooting prowess.

The Belgium international will be available for free in the summer, and Chelsea will fancy their chances of getting the player to switch Naples for London.
