FABREGAS PRAISES MARTINELLI STRIKE AGAINST NEWCASTLE

Ex-Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas praised the quality shown by Gabriel Martinelli on his volleyed strike against Newcastle United at the weekend. Brazilian attacker Martinelli came off the bench to score one of the best goals in the Premier League this month and he received a seal of approval from Cesc Fabregas.

Spanish midfielder Cesc Fabregas took to his Twitter handle to praise Martinelli and reveal how difficult it was to score the goal. He was impressed with the Brazilian who came off the bench to volley in the cross from Japanese right-back TakehiroTomiyasu for the second Arsenal goal around the midpoint of the second half.

Newcastle United are the bottom team in the English top flight and are the only team without a win in all the professional divisions in England, but they frustrated the Gunners especially in the first half which ended in a stalemate as the two teams failed to find the back of the net. The Magpies took their winless start to the present league season to thirteen (13) games after the 2-0 loss recorded at the home of Arsenal.

Arsenal went into the Newcastle United game on the back of the 4-0 defeat to Liverpool away from home to end their ten-game unbeaten run in both the Carabao Cup and the Premier League. The Gunners had gone eight games without tasting defeat before the Liverpool encounter and the Newcastle United clash gave them the opportunity to return to victory ways.

The Gunners were able to register a win at the first time of asking on the back of the Liverpool game via a 2-0 home win over Newcastle United with goals from Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli within ten second half minutes. Martinelli got his chance as a second half substitute for Saka who went off injured.
